In Judy's book, "Around the Block with Judy Hopkins", the square on square quilt block is done in just two colors, a light and a dark. I chose, of course, to add more colors to my block. I knew I wanted to make a baby quilt using this block so I played around with different fabrics. I alternated the colors on the blocks but kept the red fabric the same. This really worked out well. The blue and yellow block border gave it a railroad feel. I added a train flannel to the back of the quilt.
This is a fairly easy block for beginners to try. You are just adding triangles to your center block and building around. |
