Here is another great example of what you can do with half square triangles.  Sugar Bowl consists of squares and half square triangles. 

 I chose a beautiful blueberry fabric to make this quilt.   I have had enough of winter.  We were buried in snow this year and it still lingers. So I am thinking summer with the blueberries!  

  The sugar bowl block only calls for using two fabrics but I decided to use four.  

Of course, the most important thing about half square triangles is squaring them up.  That helps you get your points perfect.  I say "helps" because sometimes no matter how hard you try, they are still not perfect.  But that's okay.  

I find it really important to press your seams open to help your quilt lie flat. This is "not" my favorite part of quilting.  It also helps when you are free motion quilting the quilt.

And here is what it looks like when you sew all four blocks together.  I like that funky design created in the center of the four blocks.   I made this quilt into a "Lovie Lap Quilt" with Pockets.

School Girl's Puzzle is another great quilt block from my favorite quilt book, "Around the Block with Judy Hopkins".  When I look at this block, I see fish!  Maybe that's because I just finished a nautical quilt for someone.  

This is just a three fabric quilt.  I used a busy floral and leaf print fabric that gives the quilt a modern feel.  The second fabric is a soft peach and the third is a white on white print.  The quilt block is not difficult, you have half square triangles, squares and triangles.  

I used the School Girl's Puzzle quilt block to make a soft and sweat baby quilt.  I think the quilt could have a totally different look if you used more solid fabrics.  You could also use four fabrics to add contrast.  I hope you give this block a try.
