Another wonderful quilt block from "Around the Block with Judy Hopkins". Gentleman's Fancy is a lot of fun to make and watch come together. In Judy's book, she has this block made with just two fabrics, a light and a dark, which actually makes the block pop more than what I chose to do. I went with a softer look. This certainly isn't a hard block, but I wouldn't recommend it for your first quilt. It is a little more involved than just your basic block. As always, you have to square up each piece as you sew, making sure all your points are where they should be. I used the Gentleman's Fancy quilt block to make a "Lovie Lap Quilt" with pockets.
