For a while now I have wanted to do a whole cloth quilt. After meeting Leah Day in New Hampshire at the MQX Quilt Festival and seeing her Goddess of Love quilt, I just have to make one.
I came up with the idea of making a quilt with a Peacock design. I went on Pinterest and looked up all the Peacocks I could find. Then I drew out what I wanted. I auditioned several fabrics and decided on a batik with blue and pink.

This fabric is already making me nervous. I think it might be too busy. I drew the design onto the fabric. I also wanted to have some parts of the pattern pop so I did some trapunto. Trapunto is also new to me so I googled it and found a few different videos. In some of the videos they suggest using water soluble thread. I didn't have any so I used my free motion quilting thread.
 | I am in the middle of cutting away the extra batting. I used two layers of Warm and White cotton batting. In the video, they told you to be careful cutting the batting away because you could cut your fabric. Well, yes, I did that too. I had to make a patch to fix that problem. |
 | This is the fabric I chose for the back of the quilt. I won't be surprised if I end up using this for the front. Both sides should be just as pretty. We'll see. If you look closely, you can see the little patch at the bottom left. You shouldn't be able to notice it when the quilting is all finished. |
This is the start of the quilting. This is going to be a long process. I'm not going to be able to work on this continuously, for one, it would get too boring and for two I am running my business and need to my baby quilts and "Lovie Lap Quilts".
