Crow's Nest is another great block for beginners. This is a two fabric block but if I were to do it again, I think I would use three colors, a dark, a medium and a light.
Check out the design it makes when you put four blocks together.
There's not a drastic change but, I think there would be with a third fabric choice. I turned this quilt into a "Lovie Lap Quilt" with pockets. Take a look.
